It’s no secret I’m a skincare junkie. What may surprise you is how little attention I pay to the skin of my body. It’s so easy to forget about it. It’s always hidden under layers of clothing.
But then, one fine day, summer comes along. Its warmth prompts me to shed those layers, and happily don sundresses and miniskirts instead.
But there’s a problem. My skin’s never ready for them.
It’s always so parched, dry as the desert, and desperately begging for some moisture. Cold temperatures dry it out faster than you can say, “hello winter!” My negligence only adds to the damage.
This year’s even worse. There’s not much of a summer here in London. You get a couple of weeks of sunshine and warmth, and cold winds the rest of the time. My skin was more neglected than usual. It’s not pretty, trust me.
Enter Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion. Simple and unassuming, it had often failed in the past to attract my attention amid the flashier, more colourful bottles lining the shelves of drugstores.
But if it doesn’t scream for attention, it’s because it doesn’t have to. The formula speaks for itself. It’s a godsend for dry and sensitive skin. Its secret? Oats.
What’s In Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion?
OATS TO SOOTHE SENSITIVE SKIN
Unlike most natural ingredients sprinkled in lotions for marketing reasons, oats actually do something great for the skin: they soothe it.
A 2003 study has shown that oats have anti-inflammatory and skin-protective properties that calm down irritations and redness, and help dry, sensitive skin get back into top shape.
Who knew oats could be so useful?

GLYCERIN AND MINERAL OIL TO MOISTURISE SKIN
Both glycerin and mineral oil moisturise skin, but in different ways:
- Glycerin: It’s a humectant that draws water from the environment into the skin. The extra moisture plumps, softens, and brightens skin.
- Mineral Oil: It creates a protective barrier on the skin that locks water in. If the extra moisture glycerin brings in can’t get back out, skin stays hydrated for longer.
But isn’t mineral oil dangerous? Not the kind used in cosmetics. That undergoes a rigorous purification process. All those nasty toxins are removed. What’s left is a safe, powerful moisturizer.

ISOPROPYL PALMITATE
I’m mentioning this for all of you who have acne-prone skin.
Isopropyl Palmitate is a cheap emollient that makes skin softer and smoother. For most skin types, it’s totally ok. But if you’re prone to acne, all hell can break loose.
Every time I use a moisturiser with Isopropyl Palmitate on my oily t-zone, I never fail to get a pimple (or 5!). But when I slather it on my dry body skin, nothing bad happens.
It’s all about knowing your skin type and what it can take.
Texture
Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion isn’t really a lotion. Lotions are lightweight. This one has a rich, thick consistency. Not as thick as that of a body butter, but definitely richer than your average body cream.
Fragrance
It’s fragrance-free.
How To Use It
Apply every day, after your bath or shower.

Performance & Personal Opinion
Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion may be thicker than your average lotion, but it leaves no greasy residue behind. I can get out of the shower, slather this on, and get dressed straight after. It won’t stain my clothes or get stuck to them.
I’ve been using it for a few weeks, and I can already see a big improvement. My skin isn’t as parched anymore. It’s much softer and smoother. I don’t need to reapply it 30 times a day to keep it that way. Just once in the morning’ll do the trick.
I do have one complaint, though. This lotion seriously lacks antioxidants. Our bodies need them as much as our faces to keep wrinkles at bay. If Aveeno could include even just a couple, it would take the formula to another level.
But I still like Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion a lot. It’s simple and basic, which is just what dry, sensitive skin prone to irritations needs. If you need something that soothes and nourishes it, you can count on it to do the job well.
