Hemp seed oil is all the rage now.
I get the curiosity. It’s closely related to marijuana… but it’s NOT the same thing. They come from two different varieties of the cannabis sativa plant.
But how can it possibly help skin? I’ve put Boots Ingredients Hemp Seed Oil to the test to find out:
What’s In Boots Ingredients Hemp Seed Oil?
MINERAL OIL
Yep, despite the name, there’s more mineral oil than hemp seed oil in Boots Ingredients Hemp Seed Oil.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing. Mineral oil isn’t as bad as people think. Sure, it’s derived from petroleum, but it undergoes a strict purifying process to remove ALL its toxic impurities (it’s illegal to put dangerous stuff in skincare, you know?).
Plus, it’s super moisturising. Mineral oil creates a protective barrier on the skin that locks moisture in for hours and helps protect you from environmental aggressors, such as harsh weather and pollutants.

HEMP SEED OIL
Derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant, hemp seed oil is loaded with moisturizing omega fatty acids, including omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid and the omega-6 fatty acid linoleic acid.
What does this mean? These fatty acids strengthen your skin’s protective barrier, keeping it safe from environmental aggressors like pollution and harsh weather that can dry skin and irritate it.
They also keep moisture into the skin, helping it to stay supple and hydrated for hours on end. Oh, and it has plenty of Vitamin E tot help fight wrinkles, too.

Texture
Oily, obvs. But fairly lightweight for an oil and it absorbs quickly, too.
Fragrance
It’s fragrance-free.
How To Use It
At night, as the last step of your skincare routine. You can use it in the morning before sunscreen, too.
Performance & Personal Opinion
Boots Ingredients Hemp Seed Oil has a lovely texture… when you apply it sparingly. A little here truly goes a looooong way.
I just use a couple of drops and massage them all over my face. Within a few short minutes, the oil is fully absorbed. No greasy residue remains.
Yet, it makes my skin so silky smooth. I’m not kidding. I can hardly stop touching my face. It’s as soft as a baby. All that extra moisture also makes it suppler, so my fine lines look a little smaller.
Oh, and it does a great job at keeping my skin soft and supple in the cold. We’re experiencing the last cold winds of winter, but my skin isn’t complaining. Despite the environmental assault, it’s perfectly moisturised.
By the way, this oil didn’t make me breakout. But if you have oily or acne-prone skin, I recommend you stay away from oils, just in case.
