Today I’m very excited to bring you an interview with Jen, the lovely blogger behind A Beauty Junkie in London. I discovered her blog last year, and it has quickly become one of my daily reads. Jen blogs about all things beauty, fashion, food, her life in London and a lot more. Here she reveals why she started her blog, her best beauty tips, and more. Enjoy!
1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Jen and I live in London and have a little obsession with beauty products – so I blog about them! I am a full time professional blogger and social media consultant. I also love… the various animals in my life, my flat, interior stuff, travel, all things America… and food.
2. Why did you decide to start your blog?
I started my blog when I was in a job that was a little less creative and more corporate so I wanted a bit of a creative outlet away from work. So I decided to start the blog as a creative outlet for writing – then it grew into something well beyond just writing with photography too! Which I also totally fell in love with and is one of my favourite parts of blogging now.
3. When did you first realise you were beauty obsessed?
Oh way back when I would spend my entire Saturday job wages in Boots or Superdrug without fail. Buying everything from nail varnish to nice scented shower gel. I couldn’t get enough! Then my aunty bought me a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick palette one Christmas and I’ve never looked back.
4. Have you found your HG products yet? If so, what are they?
Ooh, I’m always on the look out for something to better my latest products but two I consider Holy Grail – Seche Vite top coat. There’s nothing as glossy or quick drying out there. Then I absolutely adore Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum – amazing stuff and am never without a bottle in my life.
5. What are your top makeup tips for girls with pale skin?
My top tip would be find a brand that does a foundation that suits your skin tone. Getting the base right is the foundation (no pun intended) is the best thing you can do for your overall make-up look. And make sure you check the shade is still a match year round as even pale girls shade is likely to go a touch darker in Summer!
6. What’s your skincare regime?
It really varies, but generally involves two cleansers – one that’s usually oil based to remove make-up, then a general cleanser that’s either cream or foaming depending on how dry my skin is. Then a serum – usually hydrating/anti-ageing, an eye cream – always hydrating. Plus a day cream with SPF and a night cream that’s a bit richer. Plus an overnight mask, or an oil or treatment of some sort that I vary depending on how my skin is. For exfoliating I usually use a chemical one like Clarins or Pixi Glow Tonic.
7. What shops must a beauty junkie check out in London?
It’s got to be Liberty Beauty Hall for a beauty lover in London or Selfridges. Both amazing with a great range of brands that aren’t everywhere. In Selfridges head to the Beauty Workshop bit towards the back as there’s so much to look and (and buy) there, plus treatments available too. Also – John Lewis on Oxford Street has a really impressive beauty hall too. Lots of places to shop!
8. And, finally, do you have any beauty secrets you can share?
It’s probably the most boring beauty tip of all time and not exactly a secret but it’s one that’s guaranteed to work. Drink more water – there’s no other tip out there that I think is all round better for your hair/skin/eyes/nails. It’s one that I can start to see results really quickly and everyone can do it!
Thank you Jen!
