Could you do without wrinkles?

Use sunscreen.

Yes, it is that simple (most things are – it’s humans who overcomplicate them). The sun causes 80% of premature wrinkles and dark spots. Put your sunscreen on every morning and you won’t have to deal with them anytime soon. Plus, it’ll keep you safer from cancer, too.

But, you can’t just grab one from the shelves. Well, you could, but you may end up with something that doesn’t provide broad spectrum protection (most UV filters protect you from either UVA or UVB rays) or that penetrates your skin all the way through to your bloodstream (more of a concern for your kids than you).

That’s why I get my fix from mineral sunscreens. But, if you’ve ever tried them, you know that calling them aesthetically unpleasant is a euphemism. Those can be as thick as toothpaste and leave you as white as Caspar.

So, when I came across Cyberderm, a Canadian company that claims to belong to a “new” school of sunscreen formulations made with my beloved zinc oxide, I knew I had to see what the deal was (hint: it’s pretty good).

I’ve put Cyberderm Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25 to the test. Here’s what happened:

What’s In Cyberderm Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25?

ZINC OXIDE TO PROVIDE BROAD SPECTRUM PROTECTION

Zinc Oxide is my fave UV filter. Here’s why:

  1. It protects, on its own, from the entire UV range – find me another UV filter who can do that.
  2. It’s super gentle on the skin – even babies can use it.
  3. It’s safer – it doesn’t t get absorbed by the skin into the body, like other synthetic filters do (I’m talking about you, Avobenzone).

Ok, ok, there’s the thick texture and white cast to deal with – most of the time. I’d personally rather put up with them than use an unstable chemical sunscreen that may give me an irritation.

OCTINOXATE TO INCREASE SUN PROTECTION

Regular octinoxate is a UVB filter the founders of Cyberderm want to see banned from sunscreen. Why?

It can get through to the bloodstream and, while there’s no proof it does something bad to most of us, it isn’t recommended for children and women who are pregnant and nursing. Just in case.

So, why is it here? Encapsulation.

Encapsulation is a technology that coats Octinoxate with safe and silica to make its molecular size too big to penetrate skin. This way, it’s forced to stay on top of your skin. There, it protects it from UVB rays without causing any drama.

Performance & Personal Opinion

Cyberderm Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25 is what I use every morning to whip the sun away from my face (sorry, had to do it!).

You know how zinc oxide sunscreens are usually so thick you have to drag them all over your skin when you put them on? I don’t get that with this. Its lightweight texture sinks in quickly and settles into a matte finish.

You know what else I don’t get? That awful ghost-like cast. This one goes on clear (at least in real life – it’d probably make you look like Caspar in photos).

In a nutshell, Every Morning Sun Whip has the lightweight texture of a chemical sunscreen but the safety and protection of a mineral one. 

I find it so easy to apply several layers (a teaspoon is the recommended amount for the face) without getting my face feeling all sticky and uncomfortable.

It also makes an excellent base for makeup and doubles up as a moisturizer (for oily skin). I doubt I could get away with it in winter when my skin’s on the drier side, but during this time of the year, I can put the sunscreen on after a serum and skip the moisturizer entirely.

If you’re looking for a good everyday sunscreen, this one is hard to beat.

Who Is This For?

All skin types can use it, but it’s mostly suitable for combination to slightly oily skin.

Who Is This NOT For?

It’s not moisturising enough for dry skin (but you can always layer a moisturiser underneath).

A white and yellow tube that reminds me of the sun. The pump applicator is practical and doesn’t dispense too much product at a time.
