I don’t know about you, but I’m always interested in finding out how dermatologists care for their skin.
Today, I’m giving you a sneak peek into Dr Kristina Goldenberg’s skincare routine. Together with her husband Gary (a fellow dermatologist), Dr Kristina runs her practice, Goldenberg Dermatologist in NYC.
Her specialty? Non-surgical, minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that help you get rid of acne, tame rosacea, and take a few years off your face.
Without further ado, here are the skincare products she uses, the treatments she enjoys, and the lifestyle tips that keep her skin in top shape:
1. When did you become interested in skincare?
As I teenager, I suffered with a lot of acne and pigmentation on my face and back. This was very difficult to deal with so I was always looking for remedies to keep it under control. As I got older, I knew that investing time into my skin would be something I would thank myself for many years later. Therefore, skincare has been a priority for a long time!
2. What’s your skincare routine like?
Juggling 3 kids and a full time job does not leave a lot of time for elaborate skin care routines. I keep them simple but full of all the key ingredients.
In the morning I wash my face with a glycolic acid wash. I then apply a vitamin C serum (remember it’s tricky to pick the right one to get full benefit). Lastly I apply a moisturizer/sunscreen that’s SPF 50. If you can get these ingredients on your skin in the morning, you are in good shape!
At night I wash my face just with water, I then apply my retinoids (which is an absolute must!!!!) and moisturizer 15 minutes later.
In addition to this, I do a chemical peel with a laser about once a month!
3. If you could only use three skincare products for the rest of your life, what would they be?
That’s tough since I really need 4! But if I had to choose only three I would say vitamin C serum by Skinceuticals, ELTA-MD SPF 46 tinted sunscreen and my nightly retinoid.
4. What are your fave skincare brands and why?
I love Skinceuticals because their products are high quality and effective. I love ELTA MD sunscreen because it’s light, non oily but nevertheless offered such protection! I have used Revision products and was very impressed with their quality as well. Although an elegant vehicle is important, the ingredients that these brands use are excellent.

5. What are your top 3 skincare tips to take care of your skin?
- Always always always apply your sunscreen SPF 50 or higher to all exposed areas (regardless of the weather or season).
- Make sure you are moisturizing your skin every day.
- Lastly, invest in a good retinoid/retinol product.
6. What skincare treatments do you regularly have done?
I have lasergenesis combined with a chemical peel done once a month. It’s amazing because it renews the skin, removes pigmentation and and just gives my skin such a beautiful glow. I often like to do it before a big event. The great thing about this laser is that I can do it between patients because the downtime is minimal!
Every couple of months I do microneedling with playlet rich plasma. This is a more intense treatment that stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture and tone, minimized pores and so much more. I get the most compliments about my skin after this treatment! I also occasional have a more intense laser done to help renew and rejuvenate the skin with a bit more downtime.
7. What lifestyle habits do you have that keep your skin in top shape?
I have sunscreen in every purse I own! I also wear fabulous hats when the sun is so intense that I don’t think sunscreen is enough. I always bring an extra umbrella to the beach to make sure I’m in the shade.
I keep my showers under 10 minutes with water that is not too hot, since long hot showers are so irritating to the skin. I never go to sleep before removing my make up.
I try to keep an anti-inflammatory diet to minimize redness and inflammation of the skin. I also make sure to eat a lot of food that are high in anti-oxidants such as blueberries! I take vitamins that are anti inflammatory and promote gastrointestinal health (which is so important for our skin!)
8. What’s in your makeup bag?
I use:
- IT Tinted Moisturizer with SP50
- Lancôme Bronzer Brush
- Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Highlighter Wand
- Hourglass Lipstick
- Estee Lauder Eye Liner and Mascara
