“Getting older is a privilege; aging is optional.” That’s Dr Doris Day’s motto.
A board certified dermatologist who specializes in laser, cosmetic and surgical dermatology based in NYC, Dr Day is on a mission to help women celebrate and enhance their beauty through every decade.
So, what’s the secret to putting your best face forward at every age? In this interview, Dr Day shares her own skincare secrets to ageless beauty.
Read on to find out more about her skincare routine, the treatments she undergoes regularly and her top 3 skincare tips:
1. When did you become interested in skincare?
I have been interested in skin care since I was a child. My father who was a physician always stressed the importance of sun protection and of taking great care of my skin. I loved using my mom’s skin care products and it was always a treat to have her share them with me.
2. What’s your skincare routine like?
I have gone through phases. There was a time when I would barely wash my face, I was always too busy or too tired at the end of the day. I have also gone to the other extreme of layering many products morning and night but found that difficult to sustain.
I have settled on a middle ground of a great cleansing routine, using a cleansing brush and gentle cleanser, exfoliating 2 times per week and then using 2-3 products and sunscreen. I love the way my skin feels and looks and I get more compliments than ever about my skin.
I’m always testing new products so the products I use changes quite often but I’m very consistent and regular about certain ingredients that I think are important for beautiful healthy skin.
3. If you could only use three skincare products for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Sunscreen, retinol, growth factors.
4. What are your fave skincare brands and why?
Skin Medica, Skin Ceuticals, Skin Better, RestoreSea (I had to pick 4) They all are backed by science and they create products that are consistently excellent and effective.
5. What are your top 3 skincare tips to take care of your skin?
Cleansing is the most important first step. Regular exfoliation, managing stress and staying hydrated.
6. What skincare treatments do you regularly have done?
I have done many: Fractional lasers, Ultherapy, Thermage, hydrafacial. I have over 30 devices and lasers! I regularly do Ultherapy once a year and Thermage once a year, hydrafacial once every 6 weeks, emsculpt every 6 weeks (I’m on the maintenance schedule), Fotona hair laser every 3 months (to keep my hair thick and full).
In addition, I get Botox 3 times a year and fillers when needed.
7. What lifestyle habits do you have that keep your skin in top shape?
Sunscreen and being sun smart, I try to drink or eat plenty of water (fruits and vegetables). Sleep is critical for me- I give up going out or even eating dinner to make sure I get a good 7-8 hours of sleep, thinking good thoughts and being positive. I also do facial exercises.
8. What’s in your makeup bag?
Too much stuff! I have eyeliners, sunscreen, foundation, highlighter, bronzer, brushes, makeup remover wipes, dental floss, mirror to help apply makeup on the go, lipstick.

Great interview! Did she happen to mention which brand of growth factor she likes? Do you have a recommendation? I would like to add one to my routine.
Thank you!
Jjulie, glad you enjoyed the interview. Unfortunately she didn’t, and I’m not a big fan. I don’t personally use them so I can’t really recommend a product, sorry!
